Chapter One
She watched the sky turn from pale black to pale gray. The sun would be rising within the next hour but she sat contentedly by her fairy fountain, surrounded by her beloved roses. She was utterly at peace.
Though no one would see it, she had chosen to attire herself in the beautiful gypsy-styled dress she’d recently found while out thrift shopping. There would be no need for pomp, no need for any goodbyes. This was how she wished to leave this earth and she wanted no tears shed.
She smiled as her mind’s eye looked back on the many centuries of her life. It did indeed seem like so many lifetimes ago that she’d been an unhappy socialite and embarked on her journey. It had been the journey of a lifetime–a lifetime that had seen more happiness, pain, laughter and sorrow than a hundred lifetimes could hold.
Her mind took a trip back, even if only for a moment on what her life had been, had become and how it was slated to end…
